A producer from NBC Nightly News contacted CAC in mid-August to learn more about the No More Slumlords organizing campaign and experience firsthand living conditions in these apartments. CAC first met with resident leaders to ensure their comfort with national attention. Trusting that their stories could help change conditions for themselves and others nationwide, resident leaders felt compelled to speak out in an NBC segment that aired Nov 14, 2018.

NBC spent a day in Hartford touring apartments and capturing residents’ stories on film. In the weeks and months that followed, CAC provided tons of documents and hours of analysis, advice and feedback on HUD funded housing in Hartford.

CAC is thrilled to be able to help bring these pressing issues to national attention. However, this would not have been possible without the courageous organizing of brave resident leaders putting it all on the line for the sake of safe and sanitary housing conditions regardless of one’s income.
