In staying true to CAC’s mission to develop leaders who act collectively for social justice through broad-based organizing, CAC organizers have been spreading the gospel of organizing with students at Trinity College. Over the last year, CAC has collaborated many times with Trinity’s Center for Hartford Engagement and Research (CHER), whose goal is to strengthen educational partnerships between Hartford’s diverse communities and students, staff, and faculty of Trinity College to improve its campus-city relationships.
In the fall, three first-year students from CHER’s Community Action Gateway program – Leah Swope, Renita Washington, and Olivia Zeiner-Morrish – interviewed CAC organizers, Pat Speer and AJ Johnson, on CAC’s faith-based organizing initiatives, and then produced a promotional video for CAC.
Earlier this year, CARA leader, Teri Morrison, and CAC organizers, Rev A.J. Johnson and Joshua Serrano, led a lunch discussion on Social Justice in Housing for a packed room of Trinity College students.
To continue spreading the good news gospel of organizing, Tieasha Gayle, held an info session for UCONN Students at CAC.
As Dolores Huerta, American labor leader and civil rights organizer put it, “Every moment is an organizing opportunity, every person a potential activist, every minute a chance to change the world.”
