The Christian Activities Council (CAC) began helping Milner parents organize around public safety issues 3 months ago. Rev. AJ Johnson, an organizer for CAC, provided leadership and organizing training for parents and the issues they were most concerned about were related to school safety. This included the installation of a fence to enclose the playground from trespassers and vehicles, new stop signs, speed bumps, and additional security signage.
The parents engaged in research actions where they learned who has the power and authority to make such updates and budget expenditures. They held meetings with those individuals presenting their research and securing the updates they desired. On March 8 they celebrated these victories and look forward to engaging even more parents in the process of organizing for change. Congratulations Milner parents!
