Education Funding Equity
In 2023, GHIAA fought for improved equity in funding for public education in Connecticut. Our state constitution guarantees an adequate education to every child growing up in this state, but a serious racial funding gap has persisted for decades. Working together with allies, we won an increase of $150 million in the state budget for FY2025, and an accelerated commitment to full funding of the Education Cost Sharing formula by FY2026.
Antiracism in Public Schools

During the Covid pandemic and the Black Lives Matter reckoning, in 2020, GHIAA leaders secured commitments from superintendents of 10 school districts in Greater Hartford to provide antiracism training to their faculty, staff, and students. We worked to resource and connect those districts and their leadership, shaping effective trainings and responding when resistance arose.
