Our beloved, long-term board member, David A. Weaver, Jr., passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020.  David joined our board in 2003.

“Dave’s dedication to the mission and work of the Center for Leadership and Justice (formerly Christian Activities Council) will be sorely missed,” said Tyrone Walker, Board President. “His generous spirit, compassion to those in need, and willingness to answer requests for help made Dave a ‘happy warrior’ for the cause of social justice and the uplift of fellow humans.”

“David was the kind of board member you really cherished. He brought tough questions to meetings, but more often than not, they centered around how the board was caring for the staff, how I was caring for the staff, and he always wanted to make sure we felt supported around the mental and emotional demands of the job,” said Cori Macky, Executive Director. “He also showed up at every event with a camera in hand, wanting to document every moment. He will be deeply missed and our heart goes out to his wife and children who he so clearly adored.”

David worked for the State of Connecticut’s Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services as a licensed social worker for nearly 30 years until retirement at the age of 80.

Our prayers go out to David’s wife of 62 years, Nancy, and all family and friends who loved him.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a memorial has been postponed until 2021.
